Steam Calculator is a steam table calculator built as an MS Excel add-in used to calculate thermodynamic and transport properties of steam.

Steam systems are a part of almost every major industrial process today. Chemical processes are significant energy consumers in view of their large heating demands. The chemical industry uses steam for a wide variety of purposes, the most important being process heating, drying or concentrating, steam cracking, and distillation.

A software tool for calculating the thermodynamic and transport properties of the steam feeds used in the chemical plants is absolutely necessary. Steam Calculator software has been developed in order to reach this goal.


  • Represents a real support tool, easy to use and very efficient for performing some chemical engineering calculation
  • Is based on IAPWS-97, the current international standard for properties of water and steam
  • Is designed as an add-in package to standard spreadsheet applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Excel)

  • Is able to calculate 23 different properties: Temperature, Pressure, Enthalpy, Entropy, Quality, Density, Internal Energy, Isobaric Heat Capacity, Isochoric Heat Capacity, Specific volume, Speed of Sound, Thermal Conductivity, Viscosity, Surface Tension, Helmholtz Free Energy, Gibbs Free Energy, Compressibility Factor, Isothermal Compressibility, Joule-Thompson Coefficient, Isothermal Joule-Thompson, Thermal Expansion Coefficient, Prandtl Number, Static Dielectric Constant.


  • Using this tool the steam properties can be calculated for any region using two independent variables:
    • SCTP Calculates the steam properties at the specified Temperature and Pressure
    • SCTX Calculates the saturated steam properties at the specified Temperature and Quality
    • SCPX Calculates the saturated steam properties at the specified Pressure and Quality
    • SCPH Calculates the steam properties at the specified Pressure and Enthalpy
    • SCPS Calculates the steam properties at the specified Pressure and Entropy
    • SCTH Calculates the steam properties at the specified Temperature and Enthalpy
    • SCTS Calculates the steam properties at the specified Temperature and Entropy
    • SCPU Calculates the steam properties at the specified Pressure and Internal Energy
    • SCPV Calculates the steam properties at the specified Pressure and Volume
    • SCTU Calculates the steam properties at the specified Temperature and Internal Energy
    • SCTV Calculates the steam properties at the specified Temperature and Volume
    • SCHS Calculates the steam properties at the specified Enthalpy and Entropy
